HEADWAY SCHOOL for GIFTEDNESS

Aside from academic and special programs, HEADWAY SCHOOL for GIFTEDNESS also offers the following services:

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Life is made up of meaningful daily activities or occupations. Occupational Therapy (OT) is a client-centered allied-health profession that is concerned with promoting health and well-being through meaningful daily activities. OT teaches a client how to adapt. It can help the client perform any task at school, work or at home. The client will learn how to use tools (sometimes referred to as assistive devices) if the client needs them.

The OT process is anchored on initial and repeated assessments. Assessments include the use of standardized procedures, interviews, observations in different settings and consultation with significant people in the client’s life. The outcome of the assessments will be the basis of the overall plan (which includes short-term and long-term goals) for the client. The intervention program is designed to facilitate the performance of daily activities and adaptation in places in which the client works, lives and socializes.

SPEECH THERAPY

Speech Therapy (ST) is the evaluation and remediation of speech impediments and communication problems. The main objective of ST is to improve the client’s ability to communicate. This includes improving diction, intonation, modulation, fluency and comprehension.

ST can be used to address various communication problems and speech impediments, from minor problems like a hoarse voice to major problems like a major loss in speech due to brain damage. Based on the type of disorder, other adjunct health treatments may be used in addition to ST.

COMPREHENSIVE PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT

Comprehensive psychological assessments evaluate a client’s learning, behavior, social skills, mood and anxiety, and cognitive processing. A comprehensive psychological assessment will include several parts such as standardized psychological tests, informal tests and surveys, school or medical records, observational data, and interview information. A psychologist decides on what details to use based on the reason why the comprehensive psychological assessment was given.

A comprehensive psychological assessment allows us to see a wide-range of a person’s strengths and limitations.

COUNSELING

Counseling is a partnership between the counselor and the client. Counselors assist clients to recognize goals and likely solutions to problems which cause them inner turmoil. Counseling provides clients with the opportunity to identify the factors that contribute to their difficulties and how to successfully deal with the intrapersonal, behavioral, social and circumstantial causes of those difficulties.
